Plus Size and Curvy Cosplay — Building for Your Figure

Cosplay is for every body. Here's how to build for yours.

Fitting Cosplay to Your Body

The biggest challenge in plus size and curvy cosplay is that most costume patterns and tutorials assume a proportional relationship between measurements that doesn't match curvy bodies. A pattern graded to a size 16 on the chest may require a size 22 on the waist for the same person — and the construction of the pattern at size 22 may look completely different from the size 16. The solution is not to use a size 22 pattern and expect it to fit; it's to make a toile (mock-up) in your specific measurements and fit the pattern to your actual body before cutting into your fashion fabric.
