Washing and Drying
Proper bra care significantly extends the life of your lingerie — particularly important for the larger-cup specialist bras that represent a significant investment. Washing: hand washing in cool water with a gentle lingerie detergent is ideal; machine washing in a lingerie bag on a gentle or delicate cycle is acceptable. Never use hot water — it degrades elastic rapidly. Never put bras in the washing machine without a lingerie bag — the underwires and hooks can catch on other garments and damage both. Drying: always air dry; the tumble dryer's heat and tumbling action degrades elastic and padding at several times the rate of air drying. Lay flat or hang by the centre gore — hanging by a strap distorts the cup shape over time.
Storage and Lifespan
Storage: the best storage for underwired bras is lying flat with cups nested, maintaining their shape. Folding one cup inside the other — a common storage method — compresses and deforms the cup padding over time. When to replace: replace your bra when the band no longer provides firm support on the loosest hook; when the underwire pokes through (repair is sometimes possible with underwire channel tape, but it's a temporary fix); when the cups have lost their shape; or after approximately 30-50 washes of regular wear. A rotating wardrobe of three or four everyday bras extends each bra's life and ensures you always have support that works.
